| In 1909, the 5th Cavalry Regiment was assigned to newly constructed Schofield
Barracks, in Hawaii. In 1943, Gen. Eichelberger takes command of all Allied forces on New Guinea. In 1945, Gen. Krueger took direct command of the U.S. 6th Army in the Philippines. In 1995, authorities in the Philippines said they had unearthed a conspiracy by militant Muslims to assassinate Pope John Paul II during his visit. |
